CY Topic displayed classic performance on Saturday to defeat Arising Nation 8-0 at Luwinga Sports Complex in the K11 million ($20 992) FAM Women Football Cup.
Maureen Phiri and Lucy Chiumia put CY Topic in the lead.
With the 8-0 win, the Chibavi women football side is currently on top of the football competition for Mzuzu City with six points from two games played.
In their first match played at Katoto Secondary School ground on Wednesday, CY Topic also thrashed new entrants Area 1B from Luwinga 5-1.
According to National Women Football Association (NWFA) chairperson Severia Chalira, this year’s regional champions will receive K400 000 ($763).
To qualify for regional finals, a team is supposed to earn position one at district level. Then, they have to fight for the national stage where they battle for the ultimate glory against other regional champions.
This year’s national champions will receive K1 million while the runners-up will get K750 000 ($1 431).
Blantyre Zero from the South are the national defending champions while Moyale and DD Sunshine are North and Central regions’ defending champions respectively.
“We are satisfied with the way the tournament has started. It is clear that it will be a nice tournament as prizes will be distributed in all levels. The district champions will receive K40 000,” said Chalira.
